An uptick in broken plates and mugs. Many of them are aged, and some are just fragile. Happens mostly when I wash them, although I have discovered cracks and chips showing up out of nowhere in other cases. My mug collection has dropped by 20% in the last couple of months. Doens't bode well.
Invited a few friends over for dinner. Used up goat cheese from a neighbor to make a salad wth cannellini beans, spinach and red onions. Accompanied by some rice and dal. Used my new instant pot to cook the rice. Everyone loved it. Forced them to listen to my WIP music afterwards.
New counter tops and a new sink. It's bright and shiny. I've also gained about a square foot of extra working spaces. The tap has a detachable spraying mechanism. I have no idea what it's called.
Last night while washing dishes, I noticed that the water supply pipe to my sink has a little leak. It revealed itself after I happened to put a storage box right under it, causing loud dripping sounds. Time to call the super.
Made a Chinese-style scrambled eggs and tomato dish today to eat with leftover rice. I used chives with this recipe for the first time, and there was something very delightful about dropping a bunch of chopped chives into hot oil. I really enjoyed how my kitchen smelled for a solid minute before moving on.
Cooked spinach tortellini in butter with garlic, pine nuts, chili flakes and nutritional yeast. I did add a little bit of parmesan on top at the very end to it creamy, and then topped it off with hemp hearts. Turned out to be a spicy and hearty meal.
Used up a wedge from 2-week old cabbage to make a cabbage shakshouka. Also swapped out onions for shallots. It turned out pretty well. The rest of this very large cabbage is fermenting in a jar in my attempt to make sauerkraut. Not much progress has been made on that front, though I smell something sour in there. It's only day three.
Big produce haul from the farmer's market today. I roasted the carrots whole and then sliced them into thin, long strips. I then put them away in a box with vinegar, lemon juice and some spice. Then I used up leftover basil, cilantro and pecans to make a pesto for dinner. I added some mushrooms from the haul to it.
On my way home, I saw notices in the building about a water outage the next day. In preparation for it, I washed all the dirty dishes and then filled every empty jar, pot and bottle with water for the next day. I hope this is sufficient.
I needed to get rid of some overripe bananas, and decided to make banana bread on a whim. It really is as easy as they say it is. That said, I was taken aback by how ingredient-intensive it is. A whole stick of butter? Concerning. It turned out delicious though. I ate a couple of slices topped with raspberries.
Made some kimchi fried rice today. I needed to finish off an old shallot. I've had kimchi at home forever now, so it made perfect sense to put this together. Added two eggs for the protein. I used sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds as garnish, which turned out really well
Made a quick buckwheat soba today. Some chopped cucumber, scallion soy sauce and sesame oil. The weather has cooled down but not as much as I'd like. This was quick and good.
